The entire city was evacuated during " The Return", due to the impending arrival of a Homeworld Gem Warship. The Crystal Gems continue to reside in Beach City where they watch over and protect its inhabitants from danger and evil. William Dewey chose to stay on the land, and the Fusion accepted William's decision and informed him that she would most likely interfere again.
She brought Dewey and the ship to shore and told the captain not to reside on the land.
The ship was saved from being sunk after a Crystal Gem fusion ( Obsidian) saved William Dewey and the ship. William Dewey, after an incident with the mast of his ship, drifted across the sea until he and his crew encountered a massive storm and a giant Gem Monster. After many months out at sea, the Crystal Gems, as messengers of Rose Quartz, came across William Dewey's ship and warned the captain and crew to turn back, as the land that would soon be known as Beach City was dangerous and not safe for humans. Marty promotes Sour Cream's concert by arranging for an advertisement to be displayed on the Water Tower.The Crystal Gems have resided in Beach City before Bill Dewey's great-great-great-great-grandfather, Captain William Dewey, founded Beach City nearly 200 years ago. The Water Tower was first seen in detail in the episode "Fusion Cuisine" when Steven and Connie bring their families there for dinner, though it is seen in the opening theme, and many episodes as well. It is almost directly beside The Crab Shack close to the outskirts of Beach City. The Beach City Water Tower is located near Beach City Funland on the side of a hill overlooking the ocean. There are waves behind the letters, representing the ocean. The side of the water tower has "Beach City" written in large letters. There is a small, fenced walkway around the circumference of the tower, as well as a ladder to access it. The water tower has at least seven long towering support beams holding up the large round container.
